Flies

Flies crawled in through the cracks
And nibbled away when I was
Bound by convention.
Flies crawled into the creases
Of my eyes, darkening sight,
Leaving fly specks. As flies will
They multiplied a buzzing
Until I couldn’t hear.
Bit by bit, they fed
Upon my heat, left
Me bloated, blind,
And though I groped
I could not lift
These swollen hands
To caulk my life.

This too shall pass and coffee
